Joliet
Area Historical Museum Announces Volunteers of the Year

The Joliet Area Historical Museum is pleased to announce that Dick and Linda Carlson of Joliet were recently named Volunteers of the Year at the Museum’s Annual Meeting.

Mrs. Carlson retired from Amoco in 1999 and has volunteered at the Museum since 2000. She has volunteered in virtually every position available from collections management to special events.

She has played an integral role in Museum fundraisers such as the 2002 and 2003 Attic Treasures and the 2002-2004 Gala Balls.

Her research skills have been invaluable to the Museum. Her research forms the basis of the Museum’s recently completed War Heroes Gallery. She also researched, wrote, and curated the popular exhibit, “The Healing Hands: One-Hundred Years of Nursing Education and Practice in the Joliet Area,” which was on display at the Museum from June-August 2003.

Mr. Carlson retired from Amoco in 1999 and has volunteered at the Museum since 2003.

During the past year, Mr. Carlson designed and built a special wall that is used to hang exhibits in the Museum’s Special Exhibit Gallery. He also works closely with the Museum’s Curator, Walter Keener, to hang and dismantle special exhibits. Mr. Carlson also volunteers for education programs, special events, and in collections management.

According to Kim Shehorn-Martin, Joliet Area Historical Museum Educator and Volunteer Coordinator, “the contributions that the Carlsons have made to the Museum are invaluable. It is the hard work and dedication of volunteers such as Dick and Linda that help to make the Museum a wonderful place to visit.”
