Party on the Museum’s Rooftop Terrace June 19 from 7-11:00 p.m. Dance to the 1960s and 70s grooves of the New Invaders, who are bringing their go-go dancers! Dress as your favorite Gilligan’s Island character, or wear casual summer attire.

Haunted Museum

Walk the Museum’s “haunted galleries” to meet spirits from Joliet ’s past (played by actors). Attendees are invited to wear costumes and enjoy refreshments at the end of the ghost trail. Look for details, including this year’s theme, cost, and reservation information at the end of August.

Handcrafted Beer Tasting on the Rooftop
August 14, 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Enjoy a summer Saturday evening on the outdoor rooftop terrace as you taste 18 different handcrafted beers. This event, still in the planning stages, will include live music and appetizers. A downtown Joliet pub crawl follows this event, so bring your designated driver and get ready for some fun. Would you like to sponsor this event? Sweet Senior Tuesdays

Round up your friends and family and head to the Museum for our Sweet Senior Tuesdays! Admission is free on the first Tuesday each month (May through August) between 10:00 a.m. - noon for Seniors 55+. Tour the galleries, meet new people, and receive a 10% discount on items in the gift shop (members & non-members, certain restrictions apply). Each Sweet Senior Tuesday, participating restaurants in downtown Joliet have senior specials on their menu.

Five Bridges Folk Series
Live performances are featured on the Museum’s unique rooftop terrace (or Caterpillar Auditorium, in case of rain). Doors open at 7:00 p.m., performers take the stage at 7:30 p.m. Free coffee and hot hors d’oeuvres will be served. Beer, wine, and soft drinks will be available for purchase. Upcoming acts include:

Spring into Summer: Antiques and Gardening in Princeton
May 19 / Advance registration and payment is due by Monday, May 3
Enjoy a day of antiquing and gardening in quaint Princeton, Illinois, where you’ll visit:

  • Sherwood Antiques Mall with over 200 dealers
  • Downtown Princeton for lunch at the Garden Room Grill
  • Unique shops located on Princeton ’s Main Street
  • Hornbaker Gardens , a popular destination for gardeners throughout the Midwest (www.hornbakergardens.com)

Cost: $48 for Museum Members and $53 for non-members
Cost includes deluxe motor coach transportation, lunch and gratuity, and a driver tip.

Cuneo Mansion and Gardens and Historic Long Grove
June 2 / Advance registration and payment is due by Monday, May 17, 2010
If you haven’t visited the Cuneo Mansion and Gardens lately, now is a great time to do it. The mansion was built in 1918 in the Italianate style by Samuel Insull, an original founder of General Electric. It was landscaped by world-renowned landscape architect, Jens Jensen, who landscaped dozens of estates of the wealthy living on the North Shore as well as the estates of Henry and Edsel Ford. You’ll:

  • Tour the gardens and have a box lunch in the mansion’s Grand Hall
  • Spend the afternoon leisurely taking in the sights in historic Long Grove Village
  • Visit the Glunz Family Winery for a wine tasting

Cost: $52 for Museum Members and $57 for non-members.
Cost includes deluxe motor coach transportation, admission to the Cuneo Mansion and Garden, a box lunch, and a driver trip.

Chicago Botanical Gardens Twilight Tour and Music
July 1, 2010 / Advance registration and payment is due by Tuesday, June 15
There’s nothing better than listening to great music on a warm summer night with a glass of wine in a beautiful garden! On this trip, you’ll

  • Visit Chicago Botanic Garden , 385-acres featuring 24 display gardens and 3 native habitats
  • A 45-minute tour of the garden while riding the Grand Tram
  • A visit to the Garden’s Gift Shop, where you’ll receive a 10% discount
  • A luscious gourmet garden buffet in the Fairchild Room
  • View the illumination of Evening Island
  • The Garden’s “Hot Summer Nights” music series concert, featuring Lesley Byers and the Jazz Cats as they play the music of Billie Holiday, Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald and more
  • A dance lesson from Big City Swing, a dance school in Chicago, who will teach us how to swing and lindy hop

Milwaukee : Karl Ratzsch’s Restaurant and the Milwaukee Public Art Museum
August 6 / Advance registration and payment due by Thursday, July 15
A bus tour season wouldn’t be complete without a trip to our favorite place, Milwaukee . This trip includes:

  • Lunch at the famous Karl Ratzsch’s Restaurant
  • The Milwaukee Public Art Museum to view its amazing collection including its featured exhibit:
    American Quilts: Selections from the Winterthur Collection
  • A 10 percent discount in the Milwaukee Public Art Museum ’s

Special Hours:
In 2010, the Museum is closed April 2, April 4, May 31, July 4, September 6, November 25, December 13, December 24, December 25 and December 31.

The Museum is closed Mondays, except October 11, 2010 .

The Route 66 Experience and Visitors Center and Museum Gift Shop are open Mondays between May 3 and September 27 from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.
