Temporary Weekend Prison Tour Guide, PART-TIME (May- October, $11 per hour, approx. 18 hrs per week - hours will fluctuate)

The Joliet Area Historical Museum and Old Joliet Prison Historic Site seek an enthusiastic, resourceful, and reliable individual to serve as its Temporary Prison Tour Guide. The Museum property is owned by the City of Joliet. Background check required.

Position Summary:

You will work in many areas of the Old Joliet Prison including the front desk, public and private tours, gift shop and even some events. No two days are alike! This position does require a lot of time outdoors in various weather, but you get to meet people from all over the world. Hours will typically be during the weekends, but some evening hours will be required.

The Successful Applicant Will: 

·         Be able to quickly adapt to new situations

·         Able to remain standing and walking on uneven ground for long periods of time (up to 4 hour tours)

·         Able to tolerate various weather conditions (majority of the work is outside)

·         Work well in a team environment

·         Be a fast learner

·         Professional and friendly demeanor (as you will be interacting with guests from all over the world)

·         Comfortable speaking in front of large groups

·         Able to lift up to 20lbs

·         Possess an affinity for the Museum’s mission, and maintain mutual professional conduct with co-workers and all Museum stakeholders, commensurate with the Museum’s reputation as a visible, inclusive community cultural arts institution.

·         Be expected to assist other Museum staff as directed/requested as hourly requirements allow.

Desired Qualifications:

·         Some customer service and/or retail experience

·         Multi-lingual is a plus (especially Spanish)
